How formal is the room? How big? What are the colors? This is really more than a yes-and-no question.
Some very formal British rooms I see in English home magazines have stripes and oriental and they are lovely.
And if you like it, why not?
I have muted stripe curtains in my small living room and have been looking for the right oriental for the floor.
If the stripes are subdued, meaning not a harsh contrast like black and white, and the colours are picked up from the rug, you should have no problem with the decor. Ideally there should be a few feet of hardwood exposed between the rug and the wall with the drapes. It might be beneficial to get a couple of pillows or other items made of the drapery fabric so that the stripe motif doesn’t look alien on the window wall – tie it into the room’s decor a bit more for the best effect. Good luck!

No.
Pick up one solid color from the rug. Or a compatible solid color.
