I have linoleum flooring by my complete house, though we wish to reinstate it with carpet. Should we reinstate it with wall to wall carpet, runner tiles or area rugs?

mix it up, do wall to wall in the rooms then area rugs in the hall. That way everything does not look the same
Places like Home Depot and Lowes usually have a fixed rate to install wall to wall carpet in your home, so the same price for 1-10 rooms. I’d go with the wall to wall option especially if the linoleum is old and dirty. Plus, they should be able to carpet right over it. And you should be able to switch it up color wise room to room.
Area rugs, wall to wall is nothing but a bacteria trap, even if you vaccuum everyday. With area rugs, you can vaccumm, but also lift them to sweep all the dirt and sand that gets caught underneath. With wall to wall, all the dirt, sand and bacteria just gets trapped under the carpet. Also, with area rugs, it’s a lot easier to change when you want to update your decor.
Wall to wall carpet is less expensive then carpet tiles or area rugs.
I saw someone else answered about home improvement centers offering “fixed prices on labor”. As with all things there is now free lunch. These “fixed price on labor” deals do not include items that will need to be taken care of, moving of furniture, measuring the house prior to installation, removing and disposing of old material, installation on stairs etc. And the cost for the carpet and padding are inflated to more then make up for any “savings” on the installation.
The best way to purchase anything like this is to compare the bottom line price for the entire job, all materials and the installation.
My company sells discounted carpet and we are normally 30 percent lower then the home improvement centers.
